Miss Lucy goes to Washington

For those of you who haven't heard, we are moving east. James has been accepted to the John Paul II Institute for graduate school to study theology! Woo! We are very excited about this new phase of our lives. We'll be moving sometime in mid-May or June, so things are moving very quickly! We recently took a trip to DC to find a place to live and check out our new surroundings. Only James had been there before, and that was a quick trip in high school, so it was an exciting visit!

This is us on the way there. We drove there. Yes, we're nuts. It was about 15 hours. This is us in West Virginia or Maryland, enjoying the beautiful scenery of a gas station.

One day, James got to sit in on a class. I was invited as well, but Lucy has developed this ever-so-charming screech whenever she doesn't get what she wants so we hung out in the student lounge for a bit.

Then we decided to go next door to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. It was very beautiful, and it was very nice to walk around for a while. Lucy had a great time getting excited by the many statues of Mary behind glass (thank God), capturing the hearts of a couple dozen old people in the cafeteria, and taking a nap in front of the chapel of the Sacred Heart of Mary.

After visiting as many apartments as we could, we had Saturday afternoon to have some fun time. We kind of aimlessly drove downtown and got stuck in traffic, so I took the opportunity to snap the Capital.

While we walked around downtown, Lucy waved to everyone. I think she was a little disappointed that none of the busy city people were waving back, so she gave up on that and started going after birds. Here she is approaching both a bird and a homeless man for friendship.

After much time in the car, we thoroughly enjoyed the green space.

We did some casual sight-seeing and met up with our good friends Steve and Amanda who now live in Virginia Beach. It was so fun to spend some time with them. Sadly my camera had already died before we met up with them, but I did manage to get one decent picture of our family with a DC landmark.
