January

I didn't mean to let another whole month slide by without a post, but our computer was broken for three weeks during January.  Much has happened!

We celebrated Epiphany with our friend Carly.  Carly had given Lucy a gingerbread house kit for Christmas so we thought it would be fun to do together.  Our little perfectionist took the front of the box and insisted on  copying the picture there exactly.

Lucy is having a hard time letting go of Christmas.  Much of her play lately has revolved around Christmas, she talks about it non-stop still, etc etc.  Her favorite stuffed animal, a little beanie baby puppy is now permanently known as baby Jesus.  He is often wrapped in swaddling clothes and carried lovingly by Lucy while she wears a scarf on her head.  One day recently at dinner, I asked her what her favorite part of the day was.  She calmly responded, "the birth of my firstborn child, whose name shall be Jesus."  Okayyyyyyy.

Anyway, all that is to say, here is a very sweet picture that Lucy spent a lot of time and effort drawing.  She rarely draws actual things, much preferring to paint abstract-style.  She told me she was going to draw a picture for our friend Michaela for her birthday.  I watched as she started one drawing, looked slightly dissatisfied, calmly put that one aside and started a new sheet of paper.  She did this several times.  Finally, she was satisfied.  Here is Lucy's rendition of a Madonna and Child.
The dots on Mary's body are the stars on her veil.  You can see Jesus looking up at Mary.  Sometimes she says the lines on the tops of their heads are crowns and sometimes she says they are hair.  My favorite part is Mary's smile.

Lucy got a haircut.  Quite a bit of hair came off.  It was my first time cutting her hair and I learned a lot of lessons for future hairdos.  She was very excited, as you can see.  The very next day though, she asked for braids.

Here is the pajama band.

This is the face Charlie always makes when I get the camera out now.

Here are links to some videos of the kids.  The first two are mainly to capture their laughter.  They both think that bubbles are absolutely hysterical and I know that will not last forever.

The last video is an illustration of Charlie's amazing abilities at figuring out toys.  He is becoming a little engineer who will spend more than an hour playing with a new toy if there is something to figure out about it. He played in a preschool classroom the other day with his therapist while I went to a deaf and hard of hearing support group.  When I came back her jaw was still dropped and she described how he moved from toy to toy in the classroom with great concentration, figuring out how each one worked until he had totally mastered it.

In other news, Charlie gained a pound in a month (YAY).  This is huge news, as he has either stayed at the same weight or lost weight for over six months.  He is also cruising, crawling on hands and knees and clearing lots of other developmental milestones.

James started another semester two weeks ago and we're back to the very busy grind of things.  We've enjoyed a couple of snows lately (no pictures, sorry) in the midst of this totally crazy whether where one day is 70 degrees and two days lately is a frigid snowstorm.  I cannot describe the look of utter delight when I opened the curtains and Lucy saw the snow for the first time.  :-)
